booting priority need assistance to understand it

(11 posts)

I need your guidence on this coz since i bought my laptop i knew that my HDD is SATA.But when i checked the boot priority this is what i found.

BOOT PRIORITY ORDER
1. ATAPI CD0: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ-850 Z-(PM)
2.USB FDD.
3.USB CD.
4.ATA HDD0:WDC WD1600 BEVS-08VATI-S1
5.PCI LAN:IBA GE SLOT 00C8 V1245
6.-USB HDD
7.ATA HDD1

The thing is i cant believe it my OS is loading from ATAPI CD0: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ-850 Z-(PM) does it make sense??? i need a bit clarification kindly assist

When you start your machine, it will search down the list you posted for the 1st bootable device.
So you should move your internal system drive to the top of the list, for the fastest bootup time.

'So you should move your internal system drive to the top of the list, for the fastest bootup time'.

Does that mean i should change my boot sequence order wouldnt that affect my system.Coz to wat i have understood is my system starts to boot from

ATAPI CD0: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ-850 Z-(PM)
which looks a little bit unrealistic to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it could have make much more sense if the device could have booted from ATA HDD0 OR ATA HDD1 but 'ATAPI CD0: MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ-850 Z-(PM)'!!!

Just like LH said, it's a list and it works down till it finds the one that is bootable.

Your system isn't booting from CD but is going 1 - no... 2 - no... 3 - no... 4 - yes... now I can boot.

Unless you are planning to boot from CD's then you should change the order to make the ATA drive (ATA HDD0:WDC WD1600 BEVS-08VATI-S1) at the top to make your laptop boot quicker.

I think if i need to boot from my cd its better that i choose Option number 1 and if i want to boot from my hard drive is where is should choose option number 4. That is the way i think it should be

You only need to boot from CD on very rare occassions.

Yes i get the point but just as an assurance to my answer it means that my system boots from OPTION NUMBER 4 that is ATA drive (ATA HDD0:WDC WD1600 BEVS-08VATI-S1) right?

Yes, your system is on the HDD.

When the laptop is switched on it will AUTOMATICALLY look for a bootable device in the order set in the BIOS. If your HDD is option 4 then the BIOS will still search the CD, USD FDD and USB CD before it even looks at your drive. That's wasted boot time!

If you want to boot from CD then np, leave ATAPI CD0 as option #1 but your laptop will start faster the higher you make ATA HDD0 in the list.

Thnx everybody i'll change it then i'll give you feedback :)
